Description

A lead coffin plate for Frank Appleyard found at Trinity Burial Ground in 2020 by Oxford Archaeology North.

This was the inner coffin and is made of lead. He was buried inside three coffins, which were then housed in a brick crypt. His coffin was draped in red cloth and had a large fabric tassel at each corner. These were still preserved when his burial was excavated and moved, but were not sufficiently stable to be kept.
