Floor Slab – Ann & William Mercer, with Elizabeth & William Mercer Chivers
Description
Worn dark grey slate with pitted surface and incised inscription which has lost much of its white filling. It commemorates Ann Mercer (1761-1832), her husband William Mercer (1764-1835); also their nephew James Chivers's wife, Elizabeth (née Hindsley; 1816-46), who is buried in Osbaldwick, and their son (William and Ann's great-nephew) William Mercer Chivers (1839-59).

THEIR ONLY CHILD WHO DIED SEPTEMBER 19TH 1859,
IN THE 20TH YEAR OF HIS AGE.
