Floor Slab – Dr Benjamin Taylor

Very worn blue slate heraldic ledger, obscured by choir stalls, commemorating Dr Benjamin Taylor (1643-79). Born in Richmond, North Yorkshire, he was a Cambridge-educated physician who in 1678 married Elizabeth (1653-1714), younger daughter of Hugh Lister. They had one daughter, Jane, who was born in summer 1679, just a few months before he died.

Heraldic achievement 620 mm in diameter is arms of Taylor: argent, on a chief sable 3 escallops of the field (silver/white, with a black band at the top with 3 silver/white scallop shells). The crest is a griffin passant.
