Floor Slab – John Lister snr

Blue slate heraldic ledger in reasonably good condition, with incised inscription commemorating merchant and Mayor John Lister snr (d. 1616), whose family came originally from the Halifax area. Heraldic achievement in oval, 860 x 660 mm, showing Lister arms hanging from a branch: ermine on a fess sable 3 mullets or (ermine, with a black horizontal band on which there are 3 gold/yellow stars), with a fleur de lys for a difference (indicating he was a sixth son). The L hand side of the slab is under the carpet, so could not be examined.
