Floor Slab – Elizabeth, Lady Lister
Description
Blue slate heraldic ledger with surface damage to lower left corner, with loss of part of the low-relief border inscription. It commemorates Elizabeth, Lady Lister (née Arminge or Airmyn; 1588-1656). She was the only surviving child of Mayor Hugh Arminge/Airmyn and his wife Elizabeth Bennington (ID: 486, NADFAS: 1327), and married John Lister – later Mayor, MP and knighted as Sir John. They had 16 children.
Heraldic achievement carved in oval 1040 x 800 mm: arms of Lister impaling Arminge/Airmyn of Osgodby. Lister: ermine on a fess sable 3 mullets or (ermine, with a black horizontal band on which are 3 gold/yellow stars). Arminge: ermine, a saltire engrailed gules, on a chief gules a lion passant or (ermine, a scalloped-edged red saltire; a red band across the top with a gold/yellow lion). Crest: a stag's head erminois attired argent (stag's head with ermine pattern and silver/white antlers).
